Planning ahead for a pet’s passing is one of the most loving things a family can do. Having decisions made in advance means that when the time comes, you can focus entirely on being present with your companion.
Before the Appointment
- Decide on aftercare: private cremation, communal cremation, or home burial (check local regulations).
- Choose the location: at home in a favorite spot, or at our mobile unit.
- Talk with children or other family members using honest, age-appropriate language.
- Consider whether you want other pets present (many do benefit from being able to say goodbye).
On the Day
- Have a favorite blanket or bed ready.
- Offer a beloved treat — this is a day for indulgence.
- Limit visitors to those your pet knows well and finds calming.
- You do not need to be present during the procedure if it is too difficult — there is no wrong choice.
Afterward
- Allow yourself time to grieve — there is no timeline.
- Reach out to a pet-loss support line if you need to talk.
- Consider a small memorial when you are ready.
