When a pet is seriously ill, the family’s wellbeing can quietly fall to the bottom of the list. Interrupted sleep, emotional exhaustion, and the relentless weight of medical decisions add up — and grief can begin well before a pet passes.
This is called anticipatory grief, and it is entirely normal. Acknowledging how hard this is doesn’t mean you’re giving up on your pet. It means you’re human.
A few things that help: build in short breaks each day that are entirely your own, be honest with the people around you about what you need, and reach out to a pet-loss support group — many are free and available online.
We are always here to talk, not just about your pet’s medical picture but about how you are doing. You are part of this relationship too.
