Per Diem Veterinarian — In-Home Euthanasia Only

As a Per Diem Veterinarian with Senior Pet Vet, you’ll provide compassionate in-home euthanasia for pets while supporting the families who love them. Visits are intentionally unhurried, allowing you to provide individualized sedation, peaceful euthanasia, and thoughtful support for each family.

This role offers experienced veterinarians a meaningful and flexible way to provide end-of-life care without taking on an ongoing medical caseload.

Provide compassionate in-home euthanasia for dogs and cats

Assess each patient and select an appropriate individualized sedation and euthanasia protocol

Guide families through the process with clarity, compassion, and sensitivity

Allow families the time and privacy they need before, during, and after their pet’s passing

Complete medical records and required documentation

Coordinate with the Senior Pet Vet team regarding appointments and aftercare

Our Client Service team supports scheduling, client communication, communication with primary care veterinarians, and aftercare coordination, allowing you to focus on the patient and family in front of you.

You control your availability.

This is a true per-diem role designed to fit around your existing schedule. You manage your own appointment calendar and choose when you’re available to see patients. Your available appointment times are then offered directly to families through Senior Pet Vet.

You can adjust your availability as your schedule changes, whether you want to see appointments regularly or simply open time when it works for you.

There are no required weekly shifts or minimum number of appointments. Evening and weekend availability is especially helpful, but not required.

Whether you’re balancing another veterinary position, family responsibilities, or simply looking for a meaningful way to practice on your own schedule, you decide when you’re available to work.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) from an accredited program

Active veterinary license or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey and/or New York

DEA registration required. Senior Pet Vet is willing to assist with the cost of obtaining or maintaining DEA registration if needed.

Training or certification in the following areas is welcomed but not required:

Advanced euthanasia techniques and end-of-life care

Animal hospice and palliative care

Senior Pet Vet provides onboarding and support to familiarize veterinarians with our approach to sedation, euthanasia, family communication, aftercare, and the logistics of providing care in the home.

Experienced small-animal veterinarians who are comfortable practicing independently and supporting families through end-of-life care are encouraged to apply.

We’re looking for veterinarians who bring:

Strong clinical judgment and technical skills

Confidence with sedation and euthanasia procedures

A calm, compassionate presence with pets and their families

Excellent communication skills

The ability to practice independently in a home environment

Reliability and professionalism

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Previous house-call, hospice, or palliative care experience is welcomed but not required.

Because our team works inside clients’ homes, all offers are contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check and driving record review, conducted in accordance with applicable law.

This role involves driving between home visits, carrying up to 50 lbs independently, and working with pets at floor level, including kneeling, bending, and gently lifting or supporting large-breed dogs with assistance as needed.
