Associate Veterinarian — Hospice & Palliative Care

  • Bergen County, NJ
  • Part-Time
  • Posted Jun 12, 2026

Job Summary

As an Associate Veterinarian at Senior Pet Vet you will deliver comfort-focused medicine in families’ homes: quality-of-life assessments, pain and symptom management, hospice planning, and peaceful in-home euthanasia. Visits are intentionally unhurried — you will have the time to listen, explain, and guide each family through their companion’s later years.

You will work alongside a small, deeply supportive team and coordinate with each family’s primary veterinarian, adding a dedicated layer of senior and end-of-life expertise rather than replacing existing care.

Education

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) from an accredited program, with an active New Jersey veterinary license (or eligibility for licensure) and current DEA registration.

Additional Educational Requirements

Certification in animal hospice and palliative care (CHPV through the IAAHPC) is warmly welcomed but not required — we support and fund continuing education for the right candidate, including certification coursework and small-animal acupuncture training.

Experience

At least three years of small-animal clinical practice. Experience with geriatric medicine, chronic disease management, or end-of-life care is a strong plus; mobile or house-call experience is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

A calm, compassionate presence in emotionally tender moments; clear and honest communication with grieving families; comfort working independently in home settings; and a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation for travel across our service area.

Above all: a genuine belief that senior pets and their families deserve unhurried, dignified care.

Criminal Background Checks

Because our team works inside clients’ homes, all offers are contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check and driving record review, conducted in accordance with applicable law.

Physical Demands

This role involves driving between home visits, carrying medical equipment (up to 40 lbs), and assisting pets at floor level — kneeling, bending, and gently lifting or supporting large-breed dogs as needed.
